Why It’s On The List:
Why It’s On The List:
I don’t know if any Taylor Swift songs would have been on this list (let alone two!) before I got to see her live concert in 2018. Summer gave birth to our daughter Kate on Mother’s Day weekend that year so we didn’t really get to celebrate at that time. I felt bad and wanted to make it up to Sum and happened to see that Taylor was coming to Denver at the end of that month. I surprised Sum with the tickets and it was our first outing together a few weeks after the baby had arrived.
Going into the show, I only knew Taylor Swift as the girl that wrote nasty songs about ex-boyfriends and only knew/liked one of her tracks because I liked the music video so much (and she didn’t even perform “Wildest Dreams” the night we saw her).
But I have to admit, she blew me away as a performer and entertainer. And it hit me that this is what it must have been like to see Michael Jackson or Madonna in their primes and I was ultimately grateful for the opportunity.
As Hallie alluded to in the Foreward, I can’t say I love musicals where some dopey song tries to limp along a shallow plot, but I randomly do love big show-stopping musical numbers. I don’t know why but I always have. As you’ve seen from a number of entries on this overall list, I love big arena rock tunes as well.
So needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed Taylor’s closing number, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” on her “Reputation” Tour. It was put together like a big musical piece and was the perfect way to end the night. You can see the full performance from her Netflix special, but this was the best clip I could find on YouTube.
All of the dancers splashing around in all the fountains. Amazing. It’s a big song. It’s a grand song. It’s a great song that I still listen to all the time.

Favorite Line:
The entire ending is just fantastic. All the different lines overlapping with the chorus “ohhhhhh’s” is electric as it builds before it suddenly stops.
It’s the best musical number to never be in a musical.
Thankfully, I've now seen my Mt. Rushmore of favorite solo artists live in concert: Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, and Elton John. When I heard Elton John was going on his farewell tour starting in 2019, I wasn't going to let that opportunity pass me by. Such a fun show at the Pepsi Center, here in Denver in February of 2019.

Here are some of my other favorite songs from Taylor Swift:
- Lover
- Blank Space
- Mean
- ...Ready For It?
- Teardrops on My Guitar
- Welcome to New York

While We're Here:
I mentioned above that I never got to see Michael Jackson or Madonna in concert. As I've gotten older I've become more intentional about making sure to see as many of my favorites live in concert. Don't want to have any regrets as they get older or even pass away. Thankfully, I've now seen my Mt.
